The Department would be especially interested in inviting applications from those who could contribute to the initiatives of the Ancient World Mapping Center (). The successful applicant would be expected to develop a teaching profile centered on Greek and/or Roman history. The area of historical specialization is open, but applicants' research and teaching expertise should fall within the history of the broader Mediterranean world between 800 B.C.E.
